高二ハワイ研修4日目🌺 現地校訪問とフィールドワーク

Today, we visited St. Andrew’s School. First, we did a presentation about Hiroshima and Hiroshima Jogakuin. They listened to our presentation and asked us some questions. Next, we listened to the presentation from the students at St. Andrew’s School. It was about their school life and Hawaiian culture. It is quite different from Jogakuin, so it is very interesting to hear. Also, we were taught how to make a lei. It was a little different than we expected, but it was fun to make it together. Finally, we ate lunch and folded an origami crane with St. Andrew’s students. There are many international students attending St. Andrew’s, and we all enjoyed joking around and hearing stories from all over the world. It is a memory we will not forget. This exchange was one of our last as Global Issues students. This morning was a very fun and we all felt that we grew a lot as individuals.

This afternoon was our group research time. We divided into two teams, one went to the zoo and the other went cycling. The zoo team compared Japanese zoos and Hawaiian zoos and interviewed zookeepers. We learned that Japanese zoos are focused on the visitors and make habitats that are best for the visiting people. However, at the Hawaiian zoo, we learned that the habitats are focused on making the animals comfortable in a state close to that of their natural environment. We were nervous to ask questions in English, but we did it and it was a meaningful time. The cycling team went sightseeing in the city on Biki, Hawaii’s shared bike. We were able to learn about the differences in traffic rules between Hawaii and Japan. It was very hot and sunny, but it felt good to ride with a constant cool breeze!
